Our resposibilty to care
Tears of Hope
"Our mission is to take poverty-stricken orphan children off the streets.” These are the wise words of Naftalina Mauha, founder of "Tears of Hope". During her career as an HIV/AIDS Counsellor, Naftalina saw many HIV/AIDS orphans become street children; all of whom were in dire need of food, clothing and above all, housing. It was under those circumstances that she created the safe haven for orphans and HIV positive mothers called "Tears of Hope". Initially run from Naftalina's two bedroomed house it has since grown into a multi-bedroom facility from where she feeds and clothes orphans from babies to young teenagers as well as vulnerable mothers. An Abenteuer Staff initiative – not management driven – ensures that clothing, food and cash find their way to Tears of Hope on a regular basis.
A bouquet for Abenteuer from Eco Awards Namibia!
A joint initiative between the Namibian Tourism Board and the Namibian Nature Foundation, Eco Awards Namibia focuses on environmental sustainability, promoting selective and careful use of resources, championing recycling and reutilisation - important components for Namibia's fragile and unique eco system. Thanks to the efforts of the Abenteuer Afrika Safari Team in creating and implementing environmentally sustainable practices, we have been awarded five flowers, the maximum score in Namibia's Eco Awards Programme!
DRGF
The Dongina Risser Gymnastics Foundation, was founded by Dogina Risser, who has spent most of her adult life coaching and judging gymnastics on all levels. Now ready to retire from coaching, she would like to make a lasting contribution to the sport she loves and provide future generations, of all economic backgrounds, with the best training facility in the country.
The DRGF has created the "Adopt a Gymnast" program, whereby donors sponsor an underprivileged child and cover not only the cost of gymnastics training, but also school fees, to insure these children are getting a well rounded education in sport and in school.
"Adoptive parents" undertake to pay for the child's school and gymnastics fees on an annual basis; (no legal adoption of the child or other responsibilities are incurred). The sponsor is sent regular progress reports on both the child's school and gymnastics performance. Surplus funds donated for the child are used to pay for the competition leotard and tracksuit, as well as travel expenses to competitions within Namibia's borders. The program does not yet cater for international travel.
TOSCO
"If our land had no wildlife, our eyes would be hungry" – Chief Ndjiwa of Onguta Village, Ehirovipuka Conservancy, Namibia.
People, wildlife and organisations are all part of the greater community to which we, Abenteuer Afrika Safari, belong. In creating journeys for people who are attracted by Namibia's pristine natural beauty and cultural wealth, we also support and thank the tireless efforts of the people who protect these assets. Appropriately, Abenteuer Afrika Safaris has chosen to celebrate and contribute to the TOSCO community that cares for Namibia's wild places in the hope that we can share Namibia's spectacular natural beauty now and in the future.
Top Kids Kindergarden
Run by local women for working mothers, Top Kids welcomes up to 40 children per day. Instead of a full day care center, this community-based kindergarten provides a safe educational haven for educational and social development. With one of our overseas partners, Abenteuer assisted with locating premises, builders and additional resources. That community backing helped us build restrooms, provide furniture, toys and teaching materials. The Abenteuer Team also makes sure to contribute food, blankets, toys and clothing regularly.
Elephant-Human Relations Aid
The desert-adapted elephants that roam freely in Damaraland and Kaokoland are indeed a national treasure. Attracting hundreds of tourists, photographers and conservationists every year, not only are they an integral part of the unique ecosystem they are also worth a pretty packet in foreign income.
But for the people living Damaraland and Kaokoland, the elephants are livelihood-wreckers and a deadly hazard. The Elephant-Human Relations Aid (EHRA) is an non-profit volunteer organisation that works with the local communities to protect them and their water sources from destruction by the elephants while taking care not to deprive the elephants of their much-needed share.
Contact us now to find out how you can join the programme as a volunteer or benefactor and protect the Namibian people by helping them live in harmony with the elephants.
